2. Fly Fishing On The Hiwassee River
The Hiwassee River is home to some awesome fish. The constant water temperatures provide year-round trout fishing. The Hiwassee River corridor falls in the Cherokee National Forest and has a wide river bed. Great for fishing, rafting, hiking, and hunting.
3. Explore Ducktown Tennessee’s Mining History
The name “Ducktown” translated from “Kawana” which was a Cherokee village located on the Ocoee River. Ducktown was the center of a major copper mining district from 1847 until 1987. Right down the road, you will find McCaysville Georgia with lots of little quaint shops and some great restaurants right on the Toccoa River.
4. Find Unique Places in Tennessee
Nancy Ward Gravesite is one of the most historical sites in Polk County, Tennessee. The Cherokee Nation gave her the name “Ghihau” meaning Beloved Woman or Mother. Her grave is marked on Highway 411 in Benton, Tennessee. Chilhowee Mountain Overlook has lots to offer from swimming to hiking 1.5 miles back to Benton Falls. Beautiful scenery and wildlife to explore.
And if none of that suits your fancy, you can always go whitewater rafting with Ocoee Outdoors.
